What is this item and hallmark (A in diamond)?

Can anyone help identifying what this item is?
It's approximately 4 1/2" long and just over 5 grams.

Also, can anyone identify the hallmark? It looks like the letter A inside of a diamond.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for all the info!

I would have never been able to conclude it was a glove darner on my own.
