Cameron Dundee

Here are the marks on a sauce/toddy ladle sold to me as silverplate:



However, the dates for Cameron, 1820-1840, seem a bit early for Brit silverplate. Then again, there are a couple of stange marks not shown in Jackson's for the sterling Cameron work. Might anyone be able to provide some enlightenment? TIA!!!

l think it is plate, l have a reference to plate marks which is CAM/ERON DUN/DEE, crown/&Co,C which is ascribed to Alex Cameron 1818-49 on a plated ladle.
l know that there are two marks the "B" and the other which l cannot find and that your ladle has no "& Co" on it so l cannot be 100% sure.
However l am sure "Scotprov" on this site will help out.

It is a piece of silver plate by Alexander Cameron, as Nigel correctly says. He was a very prolific maker and seller of silver, plate, watches and jewelery.
The crown mark sometimes has E&Co below it, as it was actually made by Elkington & Co of Birmingham, then punched and sold on by Cameron.
The Elkingtons started electroplating in the late 1830s, so they overlapped Cameron quite well
A nice collectable piece, as there is very little Scottish Provincial marked plated ware.

Thanks to both for your help. It did seem too early for a small provincial maker to produce silverplate, and so the Elkington connection makes sense. Not as satisfying as an actual Cameron-made piece, perhaps, but, then again, as you indicate, not terribly common and without redeeming social value. Thank you again for your assistance!
