need help with platter

Postby julia vinson » Mon Sep 18, 2006 8:35 am

Hi
I have a silver probably plated platter. It is marked Roger's Bro. 1726.
I have searched the internet to find this. I do find Rogers Bro. but not with this number and without the apostrophe. Can someone please help.
Thank you
Julia

The Rogers family of Connecticut introduced America to silverplate in 1847. The number 1726 is a pattern or production number.

Members of this family and others formed many different silver companies with a Rogers name in the title. It's confusing and complicated.
I checked all my American reference books, but could not find an exact match. There was a Rogers & Bro., Waterbury, Connecticut, formed in 1858. Around 1874 they started producing holloware in addition to their flatware. In 1898 they became part of the International Silver Company.
International continued to use the Rogers trademark for decades. Maybe your mark is one designed and used by them in the mid- 20th century, I'm not sure.

Sorry I couldn't help more.
Pat.
