Unusual marks on this spoon

Postby juantotree » Fri Dec 08, 2017 7:38 am

Hi

Can anybody help me with these marks on this celtic point dessert spoon? Its a well made spoon of good guage and looks like a typical Scottish or maybe Irish style, but the marks have me totally stumped.

Many Thanks
Martin

I agree, looks Scottish (or Irish).

Maybe the F could be for Forres?

Hi Ben, yes maybe Forres or even Fochabers, but I haven't seen any silver from these towns marked like this before. The lack of responses is leading me to think this may be another piece that we will be unable to attribute.

Hi Martin,

I'm reading it as 'I·P', but is there any chance of a deformed 'I·B' or 'I·R' etc. Just trying to widen the search.

Hi Trev

I would guess at IP myself, but it appears to have been struck by a damaged or worn punch.
