Provincial sauce ladle?

Postby Granmaa » Sun Sep 17, 2006 10:25 am

Here is a fiddle pattern sauce ladle. The marks are 3x one shape which reminds me of the Dundee mark and the maker's mark begining with I. Can anyone confirm the origin and perhaps guess at the maker?

Hello Miles,

Sorry not to be able to say who the maker was, the best I can do you is to say that there is a piece with the same mark in Dundee Museum, and they don't know either. Also Vic at Coritani had another, with the pots reversed and there is one in William Guthrie's book.
It's not an 'I' but a 'D',if you look carefully, with the eye of faith, the good news is that it is Dundee silver. I trust that you got it at a snip
