Actually the NP is more a trade mark/logo than a maker's mark. Anyway it is as mentioned Nichols & Plinke (William and Charles/Karl). They owned the famous Anglinsky shop (Magazin Anglais) in St Petersburg 1829~1900. The maker is PK but it is not known who hides behind those initials. PK is very common in connection with NP and it could mean something else, but...? The assayer ПМ is Pavel Ilianarvovich Mihailov 1867-1870. As from 1898 the owner was Waldemar Nichols.

Robert Kohun as the maker was not contradicted.
Just reporting what I saw.
Surched further in Skurlov. He is mentioned to have worked for Nichols & Plinke.

FYI!
I looked into Postinkova and found Robert Kohun #1395-97 on p. 185. His working period is 1874-1883. In Ivanov #2119 in Vol 1is stated that he worked with NP and his working period is 1842-1879. A minor contradiction with Postnikova. I believe that the most correct period would be 1842-1883 that would match with the year markings I have seen, or???

1842-1879 most likely refers to co-ownership of the Nichols & Plinke factory. He was a shareholder, not a subcontractor.

The factory of the company at Ligovskaya St., 38 from 1842 to 1879. was co-owned by the merchant of the 1st guild Roman (Robert) Yakovlevich Kohun.

Qrt.S assumption in regard of 1842-1883 period makes sense because we don`t know what happened with his activity after 1879.

This is full text from Skurlov (the first year of his activity was 1865).

Д. (shareholder of Nichols & Plinke joint- stock company). So, he was mentioned before the factory, i.e. in 1865, and as Qrt.S observed well after the factory.

@ AG2012
Thank you very much. This was indeed some piece of very enlightening information. This was not the first time I have come across this puzzle with N & P.
( I think I should have a napkin ring somewhere with Robert Kohun's makers mark, without N & P markings. I try to find, take photos and post those then here tomorrow.)
@ Qrt.S
Thank you for your part as well.
Best regards,

The dvoinik has notches meaning that the napkin ring is made between 1882-1898. We have assumed that Kohun's working period is 1842-1883....Yes, with good luck it is Kohun and the ring is then made 1882-83. The maker's mark is very similar to P#1396. Anyway, my opinion only...
