Haarlem silversmith maker's mark

Postby KJ » Fri Jul 07, 2017 1:30 pm

A friend has a Dutch silver box that appears to be from the 18th century given information I have found in the Forum, with the Haarlem town mark. The makers mark looks like a waterskin, wineskin or canteen. Is anyone familiar with this mark or maker?

Thank you for any assistance.

Hi Ken, welcome to the forum. Indeed 18th century town mark for Haarlem. The maker's mark is a horn for; Abraham Marshoorn, registered in Haarlem c. 1706-1756. Attribution based on Abraham's family name being Marshoorn. Are there no other mark(s), year letter? Based upon the shape of the town mark I believe it to me made around 1756. Could you please show us an image of the complete box and its decoration? Thanks.

Best,

Peter

Thank you for the fast response. I will get a picture of the box the next time I visit my friend. I didn't think of getting the entire box at the time I took the picture of the marks. Ken

Thanks Ken and if you do also check the box for other marks.

Cheers.
