Help identifying tankard hallmarks please

Postby dwdm84 » Tue Jul 04, 2017 4:07 am

Hi, Have been digging through our garage and found a small tankard with an engraving from 1904. I believe SWS&co is Birmingham but am not sure what an anchor, lion and lower case "d" indicate, can anyone help? I can't figure out how to post a picture. Anyone who could offer any insight! thank you, Dominic

Hi Dominic,

Well done with the images.

Your item was made by S.W. Smith & Co. of Cambridge Street, Birmingham. It was assayed at Birmingham (anchor) in 1903-4 (letter 'd'). The Lion mark indicates that the piece is made of Sterling Silver (925/1000).
