Charles Reily & George Storer Milk Jug Query

Postby new to shiny things » Tue May 02, 2017 9:00 am

Hello people. Just joined to quiz your shiny minds. I picked this little jug up. Have researched all the marks and find it is these two gentlemen in the title's work, I think what I can see is
1) the sterling mark followed by
2) the Leopard's head mark for London, then
3) the initials CR over GS, followed by
4) the year letter, which looks like a fancy 'h' which I have found would mean 1843 if I am correct, then
5) Queen Victoria's head

I am unable to find out what the "939" on this piece means. I originally assumed it was the amount of silver out of 1000 but it doesn't seem to be a usual number for this and I saw another similar piece by CR&GS marked '539' online, but saying it was solid silver so am unsure.

Would really appreciate an answer if anyone is able to help, and confirm anything else I think about this piece. Thank you! Hope my pics come out, sorry for horrid shine, I have more if needed but they're probably not much better :)

Hi,
Welcome to the forum
It was made by Charles Reily & George Storer, London.
‚‚939‚‚ is completely irrelevant, manufacturer`s internal, inventory, stock number or whatever not documented.
Regards
