Hall Mark 850

Postby Drhys » Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:14 pm

Hello,
Would someone be kind enough to inform me on this mark.
] It is "Hall Mark 850".
The piece in question is a pitcher.
Is this silver plate or coiin silver?
Thank you very much!

There was a company called Hallmark Silversmiths Inc., New York City, that stamped their pieces "HALLMARK". In 1954 they became the Hunt-Hallmark Company. The 850 is probably a pattern or production number.
Coin silver is a fineness of .900, sterling is .925. In the absence of the word sterling or a .925 mark I have to think your piece is silverplate.

Pat.
