No Makers Mark s925 Cloisonne Enamel Egg Modern Russain work?

Postby richard357fallon » Thu Feb 16, 2017 5:55 am

I picked this egg up from an auction house her in Kansas City earlier this week and the only marks ever found were the small s925 on the rim. Its also allot larger than my 19th century eggs at 4in tall and 2.5in wide. Cloisonne work as you can see from the pics is decent, has anyone come across anything like this, and information is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
This mark has nothing to do with Imperial, Soviet and modern Russian marks.
Eggs like this one are used to strike fake marks flooding the market.
At least, you have what you bought, cloisonne egg ‚‚Russian style‚‚ of unknown origin.
Regards

Hi,
This is contemporary Russian laser mark, Moscow assay office.

Unfortunately, even this mark is rarely seen, most of cloisonné being made elsewhere (e.g. India) due to low labor cost, items emerging throughout the world.
On the other hand, even if the egg was made in Russia I doubt the maker would take it to the assay office. It’s absurd the legislation was far more effective in Imperial Russia 100 years ago.
In short, unknown origin.
Regards
