Spoon with British marks ?

Postby anikopol » Sun Jan 15, 2017 2:29 pm

Hi all,

Here is a spoon, that I presume was made around 1800 in British islands, but with marks which I could not identified.
The marks are :
BP in an oval
4 aligned marks in an oval that I could not really read because they are quite erased.

Could you tell me more about these marks ?
Thanks.

Hi,

The mark shown is upside down. It identifies the firm of Watson & Gilliott.

It's 'W' '&' 'G', for Watson & Gilliott, 'S' for Sheffield, and 'BP' for British Plate, which refers to the silver plating.

Thanks dognose for your identification and your explanations.
You identified the 3 main marks, and I suppose that the two remaining marks are also unreadable to you
