Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Possibly Caspar Jacob Brahmfeld of Hamburg, but wait for those with better knowledge of Hamburg marks to give their opinion.

Trev.

Hello Sveobra,

Trev was right.
Both makers marks ("CIB" and "B") are from Caspar Jacob Bra(h)mfeld (1749-1814, master since 1785).
The letter "S" in the city mark was used since1808. So it was produced about 1810.

Kind regards,
Ringo

Hi,
Trev is right.
Both marks (``CIB`` with pellets and ``B``) are registered in Goldschmiede Niedersachsens: Daten - Werke – Zeichen,by Wolfgang Scheffler
(# 1108 and #1109).
Caspar Jacob Brahmeldt, silversmith in Hamburg
Born 6.1.1749, the son of Hinrich Bramfeldt , master 20.9.1785. Married Anna Elisabeth Kern on 13.6.1787. Died 3.3.1814.
``B`` is seen on the wine label. Where is ``CIB`` mark? Are there the same marks on decanters or elsewhere on the stand?
Regards

Thank you all very much!

"B" mark, and that looks like a "Ж" are on two label in front.
"CIB" is on only one label - on the back.
Nowhere else found marks.

Where can I find more information about the master and marks?

From the book mentioned above:
He ended his apprenticeship aged 26, i.e. in 1775 and became master in 1785.
The span of ten years is rather long and not documented, but the process of entering the guild as a master was not easy. As recorded from other guilds, the candidate was given a task to make an item and it was inspected by all masters of smaller guilds or by several masters chosen to inspect finished item. According to some guild proceedings every flaw was recorded and the master (not the candidate!) had to pay penalty to guild`s treasury.
The list of his apprentices:
Juergen Christian Siemsen 1785, Johannes Diedrich von Hein 1788, Friedrich Samuel Fenton 1791, Johan Christian Tofohr 1795, Johan Gotlieb Boldt 1802, Johan Friedrich Boldt 1804.
I suppose this is rather comprehensive biography for an 18th century silversmith.
The mark that looks like a "Ж"
is actually Hamburg coat of arms (simplified).
So, all marks we discussed are on wine label. Have you searched for any marks on stoppers and the stand? Decanters are obviously of different origin, but still, if made of silver, should bear marks.

Thanks for the details - it's very interesting!

I looked again - I do not find other marks.
Only two snick of two of the stops.
You think it is possible that these labels are not of this decanter?

It`s very, very likely the label was simply attached to whatever set of decanters.
