Dorgento - Dutch company?

Postby sebastian4743 » Wed Aug 24, 2016 4:53 am

I have an interesting example of a bowl signed DORGENTO. It is a nice art deco piece which I would like to date and name properly. It might be Dutch although the logo does not correspond with that what I found in the Internet. Maybe someone can tell sth more. Please advise.

The round bowl handle is made of bakelite... I think it might come from the 1920s...

Hi,
It looks like Fa. Dahlia, Amsterdam.
http://925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28590
They produced a wide variety of items, including smoking accessories (like your ashtray). They were decorated with Old Dutch scenes. An interesting business deal took place with German lighter manufacturer Karl Wieden .Silver or silver-plated lighter sheets (cases) depicting Dutch scenes were imported to Germany and vice versa, but I am not aware of the full scope of cooperation helping to identify the maker with both ``KW`` and Fa.Dahlia mark or `` DORGENTO`` with full Dutch marks, as seen here. Without official Dutch marks it`s silver-plate ashtray 1920-1958.
This is all I can tell. An interesting topic and looking forward to see other comments.
Regards

Dorgento probably combination of the French word for gold D'Or and Italian word for silver argento, for assumed quality. Used by Dutch silver and silver plate maker's /dealers.

Dan Dresme Zilplabedrijven Dorgento or Dan Dresme Silverplatefirm Dorgento could be a possibility.
Dan Dresme used the name (Sire)Dorgento in combination with Zipla90:

The firm Dahlia also used the name Sire Dorgento in combination with silver hallmarks.

Thank you both for your reply! I will stick to the version you provided unless a better justification appears. And yes, this indeed might be an ashtray!
