Karl Weiden Sterling Lighter & Cigarette Case

Postby tzarevich » Sat Aug 20, 2016 2:01 pm

I have looked and looked, the best I could find is that Karl Weiden used a Czech silversmith on some of his pieces. I could not find information on the hallmark anywhere therefore here I am seeking your help.

The mark looks like a conjoined JF

From what I can gather Johann Franz was active until 1899, this cigarette case and lighter are from the 1940's. Was there another Johann Franz??

If Johann Franz was a German silversmith why are the hallmarks different from the typical German hallmarks?

Hello, the company was active until 1988. Franz made a lot for export, especially after 1945 he often used just a 925 / sterling mark which made it easier to sell the objects to other countries. Regards, Bahner

Thank you for taking time to reply to my questions. Would you know where I can locate an example of the Johann Franz hallmark?
