Prompt action on the part of Frederick Shaughnessy, a clerk in the store of Shreve, Crump & Low, Inc., resulted in the arrest of two men, Joseph S. Cao and Charles Croce, who were later charged with attempted larceny of jewelry valued at $1,100. The men entered the store Wednesday afternoon about two o’clock and asked to be shown some bracelets. Shaughnessy took out a few and charges he saw one of the men put a bracelet in his pocket. Shaughnessy quickly grabbed the man and called for help. Patrolman Fred Allen, who was near, hurried into the store and arrested the two men. The men were arraigned in the municipal court Thursday and held in bail of $5,000 each for trial July 16. Four additional charges were brought against them, accusing them of larceny of jewelry from the Studio Jewelry Co., 141 Tremont St., where, it is charged, two solid gold chains were stolen from; George Homor, 45 Winter St., and from Harrington & Freeman, 59 Court St., where two gold watches and two rings were taken.

Hershon Bros. announce that they have acquired the business of their father, A. Hershon, 5 Bromfield St., who has retired. Mr. Hershon was for 18 years with A. S. Hirschberg before entering into business for himself. Harry Hershon, one of the sons, was formerly connected with Shreve, Crump & Low, Inc., where he was engaged in making fine platinum mountings, but when this country entered the war he became an officer on the naval hospital ship Mercy, crossing the ocean several times and bringing back wounded men. He was in this service for 18 months. Al Hershon, the other son, was with Ratzkoff Bros. for three years as a diamond setter. The new owners are engaged in the manufacture of fine gold and platinum jewelry at 5 Bromfield St., which offices have just been renovated and reorganized.

Suit has been brought in the Suffolk County Superior Court in the name of Elsa L. Talbot, of Brookline, to recover $12,000 for the alleged loss of a ring of sentimental as well as intrinsic value left with the Shreve, Crump & Low Co. about Jan. 1 for alteration. The firm contends that the ring, actually worth about $90, was altered as ordered and duly delivered at the office of Mr. Talbot, in this city, receipt for said delivery being given at the time, and that the loss, if such occurred, took place subsequently, and that the firm is not accountable therefor.
