DEATH OF ELLIOTT E. BEACH
One of Philadelphia's Oldest Jewelers and Watchmakers Passes Away at the Age of Seventy-three Years
Philadelphia, Pa., Aug. 30.—In the recent death of Elliott E. Beach, one of Philadelphia's oldest watchmakers and jewelers, passed away. By a curious fatality his only daughter, Miss Martha E. Beach, survived him by only five days.
Mr. Beach's death at the age of 73 brought to a conclusion a career which had been associated with the trade in Philadelphia for more than a half century.
Mr. Beach had learned his trade at Bridgeport and came to this city in 1864, entering the employ of the firm of Clark & Biddle. He stayed with the firm when it changed to Robins, Clark & Biddle, and remained with it also when it became Bailey, Banks & Biddle. His experience with the latter firm embraced a full quarter century.
In 1909 Mr. Beach started in business for himself in Lansdowne, a suburban borough, and had built up a large business at the time of his death, which occurred at his home, 25 North Highland Ave., Lansdowne, Pa.
He is survived by his widow and one son.

The base ball teams from the Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. and J. E. Caldwell & Co. played a very interesting game of base ball at Maple Grove Park, Pa., on Saturday, May 21, before a large enthusiastic gathering. The game was very close and exciting and required 10 innings for a decision, when the Bailey team bombarded their opponents for seven runs. The features of the contest were the pitching of Bradley and the brilliance on the diamond of the "Polished Girdle" boys from Bailey's.

A special display of sterling silver of great richness and variety is being made at Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co.'s store, Twelfth and Chestnut streets. With the prospect of many Easter weddings, the exhibition is of unusual interest to those seeking rich and exclusive designs. The entire center of the big store is given over to the exposition, which is said to be the finest collection of silverware ever shown by a single firm.

Thought the Falling Glass was Precious Stones
Philadelphia, Pa., Nov. 27.—Quite a sensation was occasioned at 12th and Chestnut Sts. on Friday. The three upper floors of the Bailey, Banks & Biddle building are occupied by the S. S. White Dental Depot, and an explosion of illuminating gas took place on the third floor during the forenoon. The crowd that gathered imagined that the big jewelry establishment had blown up.
The shower of falling glass covered the street and sidewalks, and the crowd, thinking that the falling debris might contain diamonds and other precious stones sprang to gather the shower by the handful. Even the policemen stationed at the corner were affected by the idea, which some minutes later was dispelled when it was learned that Bailey, Banks & Biddle's store was uninjured

Griffin, whom she had incriminated in the forgery of the order, were arraigned with her. Butler testified that he wrote the order upon which his sister secured the diamonds, the copy of which had been furnished by Griffin. The latter denied that he had written or furnished anything, but nevertheless all three were held in $1,200 each for trial.
