Postby kaiser » Sat Aug 05, 2006 5:48 am

Have a silverplated Tray with handle, with wavy flag with initials W & H (Could be Woods & Hughes) but cant confirm the stamp, it has a flagpole with the letter W at the base and the number 817 at the bottom, can any identify this marking as I cant find it anywhere. Sorry I cant post a picture I cant seem to get that to work either am not having a good day.

That sounds like the mark of Walker & Hall, Sheffield, England.

Walker & Hall

Postby paulh » Wed Nov 29, 2006 6:13 pm

I know this is a long time after your original question, but as I used to work for Walker & Hall I can add a little more information. The “W” is a date letter, as suggested. Depending on the style of the letter is could either be 1915 ( a “wavy” W) or 1949 (a straight serifless W).

The number 817 is a pattern number.

Hope this helps.
