need help on makers mark G.U. spoon and knife Birmingham

Postby diaan3110 » Sat Aug 05, 2006 5:29 am

I am sorry, but don't know how to add a picture, so I describe my possesion. I have a kind of travel set in a leather case, spoon and fork. Hall marks are an ornate R, anchor, lion to the left, victoria and the makers name G.U. I really like to know more about the makers name and where this set was made for. Thank you so much, Diana

That could be the mark of George Unite.

Thanks for the pics. The letter is actually a stylised italic 'K' and your set was made in 1884-5 by George Unite, a sought after maker due to the quality of his work. It is essentially a set for eating fruit.
Best wishes, Mike.
