Alvin spoons... what were these for?

What were these for?? They don't really look like any ice cream or citrus spoons I've ever seen... what did you do with these??
Oh, and does anyone know the pattern?

Would have been marketed as either orange, citrus, grapefruit, or melon spoons - the pattern is 'Orient', introduced circa 1910.
