Christofle shellfish-forks and spoons

Postby zweefviegje45 » Thu May 12, 2016 1:03 pm

Good evening,

I'm new here, so I hope I do everything right.
I've got this set of six shellfish-forks and six (shellfish) spoons.
I've searched the internet for days but I can't find anything similar.
One of the problems is the silver mark:
It's a square without horizontal striation with an oval inside with the letters CC and WITH the little bee. This variation isn't described anywhere (as far as I can tell). So I'm stuck. Can anyone tell me what I have? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello and welcome! Thanks for posting great photos. What you have in my opinion is a silverplated service of pastry forks and spoons by Christofle dating 1863-1935. I see the striations in the mark. They are clearest in the last two close-ups of the fork. The pattern appears to be Louis XV. David Allan reproduces a Christofle catalogue page of oyster forks in 18 patterns; all have three tines with the outer two being slightly incurved.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your set.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
Excellent images!
a square without horizontal striation

The last image of the mark shows distinctive horizontal striation. I doubt they would have used different marks in the same set.
I suppose you have already searched this link:

Very informative article:

Hello JayT and AG2012 (and everybody else),

Thanks for the quick replies and thanks for the compliment (one of my hobbies is insect photography, hence the clear close-ups).
Maybe I'm a bit slow, but I'm still not clear on the fact, that when there is striation (I can see it now) in the square and the letters CC (not OC) are present, that there still is this bee "in the balance".
1844-1862: no square, oval, CC and bee
1862-1935: square, oval, CC and no bee
1935-1983: square (striation), oval, OC and bee.
So where does mine fit in?

Greetings, André

Hi,
Christofle mark used between 1930 and 1935.
striation (I can see it now) in the square and the letters CC (not OC) are present, that there still is this bee "in the balance".

Hi,
No appraisal here. What we do is research.
You will find the way elsewhere.
