Ladies compact stamped STERLING VED/VAD American???

Hi everyone,
Can someone tell me who the maker of this lovely Ladies compact is. It's 6 x 1 cm, 62 gm total weight and produced in the 1940's. Think it's American because retailers were allowed to trademark STERLING as long as the product included their company name!!!

Also the Sterling Dorel has the wrong picture will fix.
