What IS my Sterling Silver item?

Postby Boomerangs » Thu Mar 10, 2016 7:25 pm

Hello! I'd greatly appreciate help in identifying the use of my sterling item! I cannot find anything like it. This piece is footed, has a handle, and measured 6" in length. It is marked "Sterling", has a hallmark I can't quite make out, and the numbers "4396". Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Oh my.. I realize now that it is a sugar cube holder! Thanks again to all who viewed! If anyone recognizes the hallmark, this would still be helpful!

Thanks!

Pic is unclear, but looks to be the Wilcox & Wagoner/Watson sword-in-wreath mark - these sugar cube trays were very popular in the 1910s-20s, so almost certainly a Watson piece. http://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_W2.html There were also slightly larger ones used for Uneeda biscuits - my Mom uses her sugar cube tray for Wheat Thins these days...
