Postby dognose » Wed Jan 20, 2016 12:35 pm

Hi,

Can anyone help out with some information on these, presumably, Scandinavian tea tongs?:

The marks appear to be SJS over 78.

They come complete with a delightful rotating bird!

All thoughts appreciated.

Hello Trev,

it is the mark of Sivert Thorsteinsson, born 1714 from Copenhagen (Bøje København, p. 134 f.).

Hi Ringo,

That's brilliant! Many thanks.

Do you know the meaning of the '78' part of the mark?

Hello Trev,

the 78 stands for 1778, I think the year of making the object. Here are some other marks of Sivert Thorsteinsson.

Best regards, Ringo
