A question on Kokoshnik marked Russian silver

Postby SteveDWollongong » Thu Dec 17, 2015 9:21 am

Hi all,

I have a basic question regarding late Russian silver. If I'm looking at a cigarette case for example, that was marked with the 2nd kokoshnik mark, should each component be marked? ie each half of the case.
I'm reasonably sure I've read that prior to the 1st Kokoshnik marks, each part had to be individually marked, but I don't recall if this was still the case after their introduction.

Cheers,
Steve

each half of the case

Although the hinges of cigarette cases are not easy to repair I have seen attempts to replace missing or damaged ``half``.In a word, you better check if both halves bear the same marks, regardless of the legislation.
Regards
