An interesting pairing of crests, likely that of a marriage, on a ladle from the Zeigler workshops and assayed at Edinburgh in 1810:









Any thoughts on the families involved?

The bull's head may be for Radcliffe or Hastings. The arm is so common, it is more difficult to pin down. I was thinking possibly Duff, just to keep it in Scotland. I have not been able to connect any of these families yet. It is a puzzler!

Maybe just another example of antique humor. The husband, represented by a bull held captive by a crown standing in for a ring, taking a true crowning from his (British or monarchically tempered) wife wherein the sword stands in place for the rolling pin we would more commonly see in later humor. Perhaps an anniversary gift to the wife. Even rich people had to have a laugh sometimes.
