Maker's Mark - SWS - Piece Made in Sweden Circa 1807

Postby WesternPA » Wed Apr 08, 2015 9:47 pm

Hi,

I am hoping for help on this one, as I do not have many good references for Swedish silver - I have a pierced Swedish mustard or similar jar with a handle and removable lid, and the base and the lid are each marked with four marks (badly photographed here). One is the maker's mark, SWS, and the other three are the date mark (A3), the three crowns mark, and what looks like a head that may be for Stockholm. I would really appreciate any help with the maker's mark - it isn't critical, but I really like to learn about the silversmiths who made these pieces, especially the earlier ones!

Thanks!

The maker is Stephan Westerstråhle (1764-1814) of Stockholm; master 1789, retired 1812.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

Thank you so much! For some reason I didn't get notification of a reply - hence my lateness.

Much appreciated!
