Gold Spoon Identification

Postby jcintron » Thu Jan 29, 2015 1:47 pm

Hello,
I have this gold spoon that I am in need of help in identifying. It has the letters J.C.K stamped on the back of the bowl part as well as a head inside some flower shaped stamp. The spoon is engraved with "Carlsbad June 1887" on the back of the handle. There is no indication as to the purity of the gold and the metal is pretty soft. The spoon while being thick and heavy (37grams) does bend rather easily. Please see pics below and let me know what your take is.

Thanks,

Hi J,

Your spoon will be silver-gilt rather than gold, the silver hallmarks confirm this. If it was gold, the punch shape would be different and the head facing the other direction.

See: http://www.925-1000.com/Faustria_02.html

The maker was J.C. Klinkosch of Vienna.

Hi Trev,
Thanks for the reply.. Never would have thought silver-gilt. I still have lots to learn.
