Possibly Italian spoon

Postby techsol » Thu Jan 29, 2015 5:53 am

Hi,

I am trying to identify this 800std spoon. It has a makers mark of AP below the figure of a poodle. I have found an old thread in the silverplate forum that appears to be the same maker viewtopic.php?t=13937 Does anyone have any ideas on country of origin and makers name?

Many Thanks
Martin.

Hi Martin,

This used to be popular way of marking plated wares in Italy (arg.800, arg.1000, etc.), with the arg. being short for 'argentato' = plated. As the use of such marking was misleading, the Italian Government forbade its use some years ago.

I'm sure I found some information about the mysterious 'AP', if I find it I'll add it later.

Trev.
