As far as I can tell the marks are for Zurich and it dates from around 1680.

It appears to be that of Hans Jacob Fries I (1647-1712; Master 1673); see Eva-Maria Lösel, Zürcher Goldschmiedekunst vom 13 bis zum 19 Jahrhundert (Zürich: Berichthaus, 1983), pp. 186-187, maker #162.

It looks very nice in the photo - typical late 17th/early 18th C. snakeskin beaker - but (usual caveat ahead) authenticating such a piece requires hands-on inspection.

Good luck & thanks for sharing it!

Thank you very much for the details. I have posted an image of the interior. As far as I can tell, it is old.

Hi,

Nice beaker.
Most of the work of Hans Jacob Fries I that is mentioned in this book is dated late 17e century. Only two pieces are dated "around" 1700. No work is mentioned as early 18e century. So, probably late 17e century.

Regards,

Zilverik

Hi
I was counter checking the data from Hans Jakob I. Fries. Alain Gruber in his catalog of the silver in the Swiss Laandesmuseum, "Weltliches Silber" from 1977, records:
Born 1647
Master 1673
Died 1701
So it make sense to have not items from him after 1700.

Regards
Jörg
