OLD necklace/pendant with unknown marks I THINK its european

Post by cmarie71 »

Hi all, I am a newbie here and am desperately trying to figure out the origins of this LONG LONG LONG old silver chain and very interesting pendant, I would not even know how to begin to describe it!! I hope the images are ok for this forum, if they are not, please be so kind as to tell me how to correct the issue!! I attempted to resize all the images to a very small size but it seems they are still quite large, sorry for any inconvenience!!

I have been researching these marks for hours!! The first, longer rectangular mark appears to be some sort of figure I cannot quite make out since these marks are on a VERY small clasp of the necklace I had to use my loupe on the camera to get these images, any who I can't quite make out the figure...Then there is an A in a square and then appears to be some letters to the far right, also there appears to be a VERY tiny capital A in the far right corner of the first, larger rectangular mark with the figure, it is not visible in this pic, but it is in the right inside of the rectangle (apart from the seperate A on its own)...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I thought perhaps they were English or Euopean due to the figure in the first figure mark and the A, also if you have any insight into what this pendant depicts, that would also be appreciated!! Thanks in advance for any input! I also hope to be of help here with my limited knowledge, if and when I can be!! Thanks again and bye for now, Christina

Hi Christina,

Welcome to the Forum.

It's difficult to make out the marks, but take a look at the Austrian page here: http://www.925-1000.com/Faustria_03.html and see how it compares.

I doubt the chain and pendant started off life together, the chain is likely to be for a lorgnette.

Wow, Trev, I think you are right! The 'letter' I thought was an A is probably a 4 and on the other side of the figure, I was'nt sure when looking at it, because I didn't know if it was a letter or part of the figure, but it might be a W..So now this mark makes sense! So, no idea about the pendant? If you have any clue as to what it might be, I'd appreciate it!
Either way, thanks for your insight thus far! It is greatly appreciated! I can't believe I looked through this site for hours and skipped right over Austria!

Hi Christina,

No, sorry, I can't help with the pendant, you may need a numismatist to crack that one.

Wow, that didn't even occur to me! Thanks! Also, the better I look at the mark, I am pretty sure it is a 3 and an A on each side of the figure, now if I can just decipher what that is! Thanks again! Christina
