Please help with gold hallmark on brooch

Hi,
Hoping someone can help with the mark on this citrine 9K gold brooch. I thought British, but after an hour of searching I'm completely stumped. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is British. The hallmark is Chester 1917. The maker's mark is, I believe, J·M&Co for James Marlow who registered the mark in March 1908. He is described as a "goldsmith & jeweller" and his address was 4 Warstone Lane, Birmingham. Note that many Birmingham makers sent items to Chester for assay during this period.
