French silver box

Postby NancyCaroline » Thu Oct 23, 2014 7:33 pm

Hi All,
I'm hoping someone can help me identify the approximate age of this silver box. I believe it's French (love the naughty theme).
I attempted to research the mark, & assuming it is French, came up with the following regarding the crowned F

WARRANTY MARK (JURANDE): this mark certified the silver content (958/1000 in Paris), warranty mark "F" identifying year 1769

I haven't found anything on the ram head mark. Hoping I'm on the right track. Thanks in advance.

Best, Nancy

Sorry, these are not French marks. They are most likely pseudo marks from Hanau, Germany, and date to the nineteenth century. See the following link for more information:

Thanks JayT!
Based on my poking around on the available sites, I'll likely never track down the maker. But it's a great start & your help is much appreciated.
Best,
Nancy
