Is this item sterling silver or silver plated?

Hallmarks are a little rubed however I am not sure If you may be able to tell by how item has worn?
My thoughts were that it was plated?

Not much I'm afraid. I think it would worthwhile trying to capture better images, as, because of the way the marks are struck, I would be surprised if the item was not silver.

I am away currently however when I am back home at the weekend I will try and get some better pictures with my camera.

Some additional/ better photographs.

The item is a chatelaine bag. The finger hoop & actual bag ( both sides) have the same mark... like an arrowhead type mark? The other mark on the bag & finger hoop I am unable to get a good photograph of sorry.

My main reason for wanting to know is so I can clean it the correct way without damaging.

Hi,

Great job with the images, I'm sure they will help a lot. We can now at least see that the item is Portuguese silver and assayed at Porto.

Hopefully someone else can tell us some more.

Yes used my digial camera, glad they came out much better than before.

Thanks for viewing and for the information. Portuguese silver, that's interesting and good news it's silver not plated as I thought it may be.

Great job as usual Trev it's Porto with a silver content of 833/1000 per parts silver. If you punch Porto into the search above should pull up another example on a filigree broach I posted some months ago.
