German? teaspoon DEP GARANTIE

Postby DianaGaleM » Sat Oct 18, 2014 8:36 pm

I have just acquired two little silverplated spoons (length 140 mm), and I don't recognize the pictorial mark, much less the pattern:

I believe the "90" refers to the thickness of silver plating (90 grams per standard plate lot) and that "DEP" stands for, "Deutsches Eingetragenes Patent." I presume "GARANTIE" means the registered patent is guaranteed. I don't know what the "39" means, and I can't make out the figure in the circle. It looks kinda like a centaur on skis(!).

Any help with the mark or the pattern name is welcome.

Have seen the French 'DEPOSE' marks on silver and other items of German manufacture, but right off hand, can't recall seeing it with the added 'GARANTIE' - usually associate a centaur mark with Ercuis, but this doesn't look quite right for their marks...

I think you're right about the DEP being DEPOSE. The mark is "DEP." not "D.E.P."

I tried to get a closer image of the figure, but the "zoom" on my camera has broken. I'll have to ship it off for repair. I'll try for a larger, clearer image when the camera comes back.

that is a "Zentaur", mark of H.A.ERBE Metallwaren- und Besteckfabrik (flatware maker) in Schmalkalden, Thüringen (Germany).
