Please help ID these marks on a well made brooch / pendant

Postby music-surf » Wed Oct 08, 2014 9:51 am

I've been looking at this piece for quite a while now and am no further than when I started. It looks like the center piece with the pearl and rubies was added to the piece. The marks are on the bale. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Music-surf,

I'm probably barking up the wrong tree here, but when you look at this mark in the flesh, how does it compare with the mark on the left?

It is actually extremely similar, what mark is that?

It's a mark that is struck on jewellery by the Porto assay office. It was in use from 1938 until 1985.

Thanks! I'm guessing the other mark is likely a maker's mark.

I would assume so. Hopefully other members may recognise it, and confirm/deny the possible Porto mark.
