Identify Sterling Pattern and Manufacturer

Postby bgm328 » Sat Oct 04, 2014 2:05 am

I have several sterling forks that I believe are dessert forks. They have a flag (pennant) on the back with an H in the middle and the work Sterling to the right of it. I read on another post that this might be the mark that belonged to Watson (originally for their Mechanics Sterling division). However, I am unable to find the pattern. Does anyone have any information on this?

Hi ~ welcome to the forums. The maker is Watson, the pattern is 'Victoria (Old)', introduced in 1890.

Thanks for the information. It is very helpful. I have used these for dessert forks. Any idea what type of fork they are? I have tried to find the pattern for years. admin edit - please see guidelines I was very surprised of the age you mentioned. They look brand new.

That's just an introduction date, many patterns were produced for decades and often, even if inactive, could be special ordered; since Watson introduced another 'Victoria (New)' pattern in 1900, doubt this one was left in regular production. I don't have any old Watson catalogs and you don't mention size, but they may be dessert forks, or if just a bit smaller than regular table/dinner forks, might have been offered as tea/luncheon forks - they can, of course, be used for whatever you like...
