D.G. SHAKESPEAR

Penallta Road, Ystrad Mynach, Monmouthshire

Failed to Hear Raiders - Although he lives above his shop in Penallta Road, Ystrad Mynach, Monmouthshire, Mr. D.G. Shakespear did not hear smash-and-grab raiders break a window early one morning and steal diamond rings worth more than £200. Neighbours in premises adjoining the jeweller's shop raised the alarm.

EMMANUEL FREDERICK MOSES

Swansea

ALLEGED ASSAULT.—Mr. Winchcombe, agent of the Aberdare Coal Company, was summoned for an assault on Emmanuel Frederick Moses, a silversmith of Swansea. It appeared that on Wednesday afternoon complainant called at defendant's office on some business respecting his sons, when defendant said he was busy, and told him to come again at three o'clock; and when he came at that hour he found the defendant had gone out in the meantime, and said aloud that that was just what he had expected. As he was going downstairs he met the defendant coming up, and a quarrel and scuffle took place between them on the landing, Complainant asserted that the defendant took him by the throat and tried to throttle him, calling him a "b.... Jew." The defendant admitted that a scuffle took place, but denied the alleged throttling. The Bench sent for a clerk in the office, who had witnessed part of the affray, and after hearing his evidence decided that there had been a scuffle, but no assault, and the case was therefore dismissed.

JOHN MORGAN

Pier Street, Aberystwyth

OBITUARY

We regret to announce the death of Mr John Morgan, jeweller and lapidary, Pier-street, who was one of the oldest inhabitants of the town. He had been an invalid for some weeks past, and succumbed on Thursday, at the age of 60 years. For many years past he carried on business in Pier-street, where he resided up to the time of his death. Mr Morgan was quiet and unostentatious, and thoroughly imbued with a deep religious feeling, and for the greater part of his life was an office-bearer with the Baptist persuasion, being first a deacon in Baker-street Welsh chapel. About 16 ago years he took a prominent part in the formation of an English cause, and he was elected its first deacon, a position which he held up to the time of his demise, as well as acting as secretary, leader of the singing, and superintendent of the Sunday school. He leaves a widow and three children - two daughters and one son - by whom his death is much deplored.
