Interesting antique spoons

HI ALL

I’m looking for help with this set of interestingly diamond shaped antique spoons.

They are clearly a set as evidenced by their unique shape & the engraved initial C but 1 spoon has different hallmarks.

4 spoons are marked HM & IO & 2 symbols
1 Spoon is marked FS & IO & 2 symbols, of which one is the same as the others & one is a different symbol.

When & where were these made? & what are they meant to be used as?

The shape of the bowls and the marks are very interesting. Note how in the last image the two marks overlap each other although difficult to see which one is on top.

Possibly orange spoons, cf. the more modern grapefruit spoon for bowl shape.

Hi All,

These are tea spoons. They are made of very thin (gauge) silver alloy and couldn't with stand a citrus fruit. We have seen those spoons before on the forum.

Date letter little a used during Kingdom of Holland after October 7th 1807 till 18th March 1809. The maker’s mark FS for: F. Simons, The Hague, 54 years old when he registered his mark in 1807, Francois Simons registered in The Haque from 1776-1811.The Stork office mark for the city of The Hague. IO for 10 Penningen standard mark for large and medium work ( fineness 833.3/1000)



IO standard mark see above, maker’s mark HM (conjoined) for; Henderik Adriaan de Meyer or H.A. Meyer, registered in The Hague ftom 1807-1811. The Stork, assay office The Hague (upside down) and date letter b used as of 18th March 1809 till 21st of December 1809.

Thanks everyone for your most wonderful help.

I am adding images of the stem; they have very slanted stems & were definitely made to scoop something up & not just to mix tea. I’m thinking they might be similar to sipper straws & are for small cups of iced tea.
