HELP APPRECIATED WITH CONTINENTAL MARK

Postby excalibur1661 » Sat Aug 23, 2014 9:47 am

Dear Board Member,

Please help identify the marks on this plaque of the Holy Family. The leftmost mark appears like the German '13' mark, however, there appears to be the head of horse between the numbers. Also, on the bottom of the cartouche, there appears what seems to resemble the outline of a key.

KIND regards,

Fred

Good morning Fred,

Just to advise that you will get a better response on this lovely piece by embedding the images. I also have photobucket, look to the right of your image then click on IMG to cut. Open this window then click in IMG again, right click then paste. URL should appear in the posting window. check preview to see if it posted correctly.

Please do go into the edit mode in Photobucket to check the size of the image in resize. Make sure that the largest number is 600 hundred or less.

Good luck with that, as to the marks I'm seeing a winged Pegasus in center. A right facing wolf or lion on the right. The left I can not identify. You may consider cropping then enlarging that image before posting.

Hope this helps
Warren

Good morning Warren,

Thank you so much for the advice. I have always been wondering how to this so that it would not be so cumbersome for the board members to copy paste the link.

Now, thanks to you, I have overcome this hurdle.

Best wishes.

Fred

Great job Fred,

I take it your working on the last mark. It appears that the left mark is for the city of Worms (Rhine-Palatinate). 13 Lot over a star and large key. The middle is more likely an eagle but most of the ones listed here are facing to the left. See the link below but do look at the other sections of German marks. let's see what the more experienced member have to say.

Thank you Fred, my knowledge is extremely limited actually. I do try to pay attention. Photographing and posting images here has been a challenge for myself, try to assist others when I can. Now let's see what our real scholars can tell us about what they would might more adequately describe as pseudo marks.

Fred,

Finally got up the nerve to march through Silberpunzen Hauptselle which is curated by our Theo. Started at zero, at item #5181 dated 1880 Hanau Pseudo Worms believe I spotted your eagle and lion. #5182 1890 is another example with key, and #5183 1901 with a close up of the key. If you click on two of the images there is further information in German.

Fred yöur very welcome.

And thank you Theo for embedding those images. The link I posted did not function, seemed to be correct.
