Hello, as the department number is 78 or that of Var and not what was expected of Strasbourg (65 Bas-Rhin). I hope this information will be useful to identify the silversmith. Thank you, Regards, Guido

Hello I have to make a correction.
Since the cruet was made between 1798 and 1809 at the time the department 78 indicated the city of Strasbourg is not the department of Var. Thank you for your patience.

Noteworthy is that the French maker "O sign B" (around 1798/1809) is not known in my books. All the marks in this post are clear and yet the master stays unknown? How is that possible?

Identifying maker’s marks from the French provinces is an on-going project. I believe there are thousands of makers who remain unknown, especially those who worked in the fairly chaotic period at the end of the Revolution after the guilds had been abolished. This makes studying French silver both interesting and frustrating at times.

As Zilverik points out, the marks on this cruet look correct, and I would add the style is right for the period.
