Swedish bowl

Postby EmmaW » Thu Jul 03, 2014 7:57 am

Hi everyone.

I'd really appreciate some help with the bowl and dish below. I've been able to get that the marks are for Sweden 1844 but am stuck on the town and maker. Any help will be greatly valued.

Thank you

Emma

Hi Emma,

The city mark could be a 'tree and goat' for the Swedish city of Varberg but let us wait for our Nordic contributors to tell us more.

City of Varberg in Sweden is correct as well as 1844. The maker MOB is Michael Olof Barkman. He marked 1813-1851 in Varberg (He was born 1790). Barkman also marked MB, M.O. BARKMAN and BARKMAN only.

Brilliant, thank you both so much. Just a point of clarification... in Tardy it says that this mark was in use in the 18th century. Do I presume that some makers like Barkman continued to use it into the 19th?
