Help in identifying Maker's Mark and Town

Postby Miklan0 » Mon Jun 23, 2014 8:33 pm

Hi Forum,

I recently purchased a set of 8 silver spoons with the below hallmarks on them. I've tried to research where they've come from and I can't identify the maker's mark nor the town mark. I thought they might be silverplate, but I don't think so because there is the lion rampant and a year letter present. Can anyone help me in identifying the town mark and the makers name please? I'm really stumped!

Hi.
I believe your spoons to be sponsor - Roberts and Belk, town mark - Sheffield (the mark was a crown until 1975
when it became the rose emblem) and date - 1981.

Your spoons are sterling silver with the town mark (rose) of Sheffield. The Sheffield Assay Office changed from a crown to a rose in 1975 and the date letter G is that for 1981. The sponsor's mark R&B is Roberts & Belk Ltd.

Thank you both so much for such a quick and informative reply.
