Sterling - Glass Art nouveau Flask ... for whiskey ?

Postby Vale » Wed Jun 11, 2014 2:26 pm

HI all,

Here is this little bottle, I assume for some kind of liqueur, from late XIX, maybe early XX, with three marks in the bottom: "Sterling", "4 100", and something else, certainly the maker's mark.

BY the way, what do these numbers mean ?

And the manufacturer's mark:

Clues?

As always, thanks for this opportunity.

Hi Vale,

That's an Alvin mark.

Sorry, I meant to ask. Did you inadvertently invert your mark image, or is that how it appears on the item?

If that is how it was applied, curiously, it appears reversed:

Oh yes, I didn't mirrored it. Another clue to keep searching for dates. Do you know when that advertisement was released?

Precisely I was looking for it now, and seems It was made between 1886 and 1893, agree to sterlingflatwarefashions.com

"
Began as Alvin Mfg. Co. in 1886 and founded by William H. Jamouneau. With the addition of partners in 1893, including George B. Beiderhase, the name was changed to Alvin-Beiderhase Co. The company was acquired by Joseph Fahys & Co. in 1897, and the name was changed to the Alvin Silver Co. in 1919. When it was acquired by Gorham in 1928, the company underwent its last name change to Alvin Corporation. "

Well ... looks like a pretty well closed case. Thank you.
