Additional flower mark

Hello all,
I was wondering if anybody could help me identify the additional flower mark next to the hallmark?





Maker is a bit rubbed but any help there too would be appreciated.

Good day,

There is an article here British Additional Marks that includes a floral mark by John Millward Banks that you may find of interest.

Is that a London date letter N for 1808? Am assuming that the other partial mark between the duty mark and the makers mark is a leopard's head but could also be a journeyman's mark. Can you give us a close up of the makers mark only? Am not sure what the first letter is but the second appears to be an F over what looks like SH or S pellet H.

Thanks for your input.
The makers mark is very rubbed but under a 20x loupe the letters visible are definitely a E above a H. After lots of searching the only match I can find is James Ede and Alexander Hewat (grimwade 1278). Registered in 1808 so the date matches well. The other mark is a journeyman's mark. I have looked in the additional British marks section and did see the flowers from a much later date, do we think this is something similar like a trademark? Has anybody seen this mark before?

Honestly I'm not sure, let's see what our more experienced members have to say about the floral mark. The additional photo of the makers mark would not hurt, others may see additional things in the mark itself. You might be surprised.

As an FYI just looked again through the possibilities, the mark for James Ede over Alexander Hewat looks very close. The particular shape of the center post of the E looks right.

Hi Rhodri,

The flower device is a French provincial mark, indicating 'Foreign Silver'. It was in use from the 16th August 1819 until the 9th May 1838.

Thanks for the additional image, does appear to be an & symbol next to the H but without further research material, I'm working with Silver Makers Marks UK, there appears to be no other possibilities. Our friend Phil may have more information for us.
