“AMORPHOUS” FIGURAL DANISH SILVER PLATE MARK

Postby Essexboy Fisher » Wed May 28, 2014 6:51 pm

Hello I just bought another spoon. Stylistically it resembled an English turn of the 19th century small tea or coffee spoon. It was not however English as it carried the Danish 2 tower silver plate mark. Hopefully pictured below are the markings.

I assumed the “P” mark might have something to do with silver plate and from 100-925 site I found “P” for “plet” and the “plate” translation. I have looked at a good number of other “Danish silver plate” postings searching for the figural mark that is on my spoon. No luck so I an asking for more comments from members of the forum. Does anybody know anything about the manufacturer of my spoon?
Looking forward to replies.

Hello, I am not answering my own post again but I did go back to the same “spoon shop” and found and there was a Danish dessert spoon marked like my coffee spoon with additional lettering on. I looked to the inter net again but found no clues again to an electroplating company “APMF”. Picture shown below.

The dessert spoon is of a similar date design to the coffee spoon. I hope this extra image can further stimulate the forum to identify the manufacturing company involved.

Hi Fishless,

Just some detail to help with the research. The figural mark is that of Bishop Absalon, he carries a crosier in one hand, and an axe in the other, see:

Member Hose_dk has indicated in the past that the mark may be connected to the 'Københavns skefabrik Amager' (Copenhagen Spoonfactory Amager). Hopefully he will see this topic and add his thoughts.

Thank you Trev for the Absalon snippet. It eventually lead to a “Hose_dk” thread started in 2007.
Hopefully the following reference goes to the thread.

Unfortunatly a lot of the images posted in it have been detached from the listings but there were references from 2 respondents regarding a conjoined AP mark. There are still images of a conjoined AP mark present but they are dissimilar to the mark on my dessert spoon. There is an attribution of the conjoined AP mark to “A.Prip” a Denmark based company. My mark being associated with a 2 tower mark should be an earlier mark making “A.Prip” a good candidate to be the maker of both my spoons.
I look forward to more enlightenment.
Fishless
