basic question about British marking

Postby mk209 » Fri May 02, 2014 7:13 am

I read somewhere the date in which downward marking started and I can't for the life of me remember when it started and where I read it! It's just that I was going through some of my collection and found a P, A & W Bateman spoon dated 1805 with downward marking with the lion facing right and thought it was a bit too early for that?
