John B. Scott Silver

Hello I've got a number of John B. Scott silver flatware. I can't seem to find much (any) information about the location/date of these flatware. I'd love to know more about these items if anyone has any information. The close up does not show well, but the imprint clearly says John Scott, with a faded (B) as an initial. Thanks!

Need to go for the clear shot on the marks, it does take practice. Try indirect day light with your camera on the macro setting for a start see what works best for you. Read through these posts, there are good suggestions there as well. Good luck with that, you can do it.

I am a little confused, you first posting showed a late coin spoon with what look like pseudo hallmarks, your second show a late coin silver pattern fork. In any case John B Scott supposedly worked in NY, NY at least until 1850.

Gentlemen, yes, different item. Both items have John B Scott markings. Sorry for the confusion.

John B Scott is shown in the 1850 through 1880 Pittsfield, Massachusetts census's as a jeweler with the birth year 1820 in 1850 and later 1825. His birth state is shown in those census's as New York. His 1862 Civil War draft registration lists him as a jeweller residing in Williamston, Massachusetts.

Silverly's dating is probably more accurate than the book I used.
The first spoon by style is probably around 1850 the fork maybe as much as ten years later.
Age is relative.
