The reply I got from the assay office:
Good Afternoon
I have puzzled over the pictures that you have sent of the hallmarks that you want identified.
I believe that this is the mark of Groom and Nicholson who first registered with us in 1978. The other marks are a lion passant for sterling silver, and I believe this is the leopard's head for the London Assay Office, and the date letter for 1992.
As you said one of the marks is very difficult to identify and the whole identification has to be made around that mark - the Assay Office mark.
