Unknown year/maker for Dutch Import silver tea caddy spoon

Hello All,

I'm having some real trouble finding clear and unambiguous info on a tea caddy spoon of mine.

From what I have read, the Amsterdam assay office mark with the date letter combined puts the spoon at around the mid 1700s, though the import mark says otherwise...

I have read lots of posts though still completely unsure being new to Dutch silver.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

The mark of Abraham Meyer.

Hi,

Your tea caddy has been made in Amsterdam; early 19th century when the Dutch silver guilds were declared abolished but temporarily remain in existence as destroyed guilds until 1807. The exclusivity and the admission requirements are however abolished.
The three Andreas crosses crowned with combined date letter S is clearly for the year 1801, 2nd standard silver.
The maker’s mark appears to be deformed but could be AMR for; Abraham Meyer, registered in 1799 till he died somewhere after 1811.
Abraham Meyer (Jewish) born in 1740 and given his age, has long worked under the authorities of the silver guild in Amsterdam. Abraham Meyer has been registered as a cashier for the silver guild without a masters’ mark. After emancipation of the Jews in the Batavian Republic in 1796; on September 2nd 1796 under influence of the French Enlightenment Ideals and political pressure of the French occupational rulers in the Netherlands, the Dutch Jews obtained Dutch citizenship and thus lost their alien status with all restrictions. In 1799 Abraham Meyer made use of the abolished rules and restrictions of the silver guilds to become master and finally obtained in Amsterdam his own masters’ mark.

Crowned V for large items; duty mark for foreign and other untaxed objects used 1814-1893.
